The new generation is here. Bishop Baumgartner Obispos are proud to officially announce their debut as Guam’s first-ever Middle School Esports Team. Their debut also stands as a reach out to all the other local middle schools in hopes of meeting and competing with other Esports Teams. This new chapter of Obispos history is a big step for their hopeful, future Obispos who strive and look forward to creating a successful future through gaming. BBMCS (Bishop Baumgartner Memorial Catholic School) wants students to be able to participate in all kinds of extracurricular activities no matter what form it comes in. Whether it’d be the usual, physical sports, academic clubs, or other activities such as Esports. They believe that interacting with others in different ways gives students the opportunity to express themselves in one way or another.
After a week of face-to-face learning for the OBISPOS, the Governor announced the island would revert back to Pandemic Condition of Readiness 1 (PCOR1) in response to the significant increase in the number of persons testing positive for COVID-19 within the week. As a result, BBMCS announced it would shift to Distance Learning beginning August 17, 2020. The students gathered their books and supplies and took them home while the teachers prepared themselves to be with their students online in Distance Learning.
The official first day of classes started with temperature checks, hand washing or sanitizing, and wearing of masks. Teachers shared the health and safety protocols and reviewed the class schedule with their students. Students reported to their homeroom classes, were excited to meet their teachers, and reunited with their classmates and friends. Students enjoyed their snack and lunch in their homerooms and started their classes as scheduled.
Each year, all school shareholders worked toward completing the school’s accreditation action plan developed in 2014. In anticipation of the February 2020 Accreditation Team Visit, the self-study was completed. Beginning on Ash Wednesday and lasting for three days, the visiting team spent their time visiting classrooms and meeting with students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and the parish priest. After waiting three months, the awesome news finally arrived! The Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) granted BBMCS full accreditation through June 30, 2026. This is a dual accreditation with Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Congratulations to the entire Obispos community for their hard work and commitment to continuous school improvement and faith formation.
It was a very different day for our Obispos Class of 2020. Unable to have the traditional 8th Grade Graduation Mass and Ceremony, the graduates had the opportunity to walk the red carpet and receive their diploma in front of their parents as school teachers, staff, and administrators cheered them on. Congratulations to the Class of 2020. We are proud of you and can’t wait to see the wonderful things you will achieve! Go OBISPOS!!
